Welcome to Fourth Grade, room 209. I'm Miss Tierney. I have been teaching at Our Lady of Charity for 27 years.
One of the biggest steps your child will take this year is showing responsibility and independence with their school work. Throughout the school year we will discover homework and study skills that will help your child to become more self-reliant. It is important that you continue to monitor your child's progress before report cards are issued. Ask to see your child's homework assignment notebook daily. This is a daily progress report as to what is currently going on with a particular subject. Don't just ask your child if he/she has homework, ask to see the assignments. I tell the students to bring assignments home daily in their "go home" (homework) green folders, even if they finished the assignments in school. Ask to see their spiral notebooks and writing composition books weekly. Not all assignments will be on worksheets. Many assignments are done in spiral notebooks and writing composition books. Another way to get a progress report is to check to see assignments are complete in these books. Weekly checking on line in PowerSchool is another way to check on on your child's grades. A final way to check your child's progress is to sign and return all tests and ask weekly to see any quiz papers.
Such issues as homework, grading, and communication policies were sent home in two separate letters with your child. Please read these letters with your child, and keep these letters so you and your child can refer to them throughout the school year. Please sign and return the confirmation slips attached to these letters.
The class of 2022 will be working together as a team to make it a great year! I hope I can help your child's talents shine brightly!
