Here is an overview of the the newly formed tax credit scholarship program:
  • Starting in January 2018, Illinois will offers tax credits to individuals and businesses for donations to scholarship-granting organizations (SGOs), nonprofits that provide private school scholarships to low- and middle-income students.

  • Illinois Invest in Kids Act is a five year program.

  • Available for students entering kindergarten through 8th grade. (not eligible for preschool students)

  • Eligible students can receive scholarships worth 100%, 75%, or 50% of tuition and fees.

  • Parents apply to these independent SGOs.

  • SGOs determine whether students meet the eligibility requirements and then distribute to eligible students on a FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE basis.
