Dear Parents, Next week is Catholic Schools Week. Students are participating in a food drive service project for Catholic Charities West Region here in Cicero. Students should bring food donations to their teachers by Feb. 4. Acceptable contributions include oatmeal, cereal, rice, pasta, pasta sauce, beans, peanut butter, jelly, fruit juice, macaroni and cheese, and canned fruit, vegetables, soup or fish. The class with the most donations will earn a dress down day. Also, the Cicero Knights of Columbus will assist us with a Catholic Schools Week spelling bee on Feb. 1. Feb. 2 is “red, white, and blue day.” Students may wear those colors and come out of uniform. A Veteran will help us raise a new flag outside. Three seminarians will speak to our middle school students on Feb. 3 about their call to the vocations. On Feb. 4 we will treat our teachers to coffee and donuts. Would you like to contribute the donuts and coffee? If so, please contact me: fzarate@olc-school.org
92% of the OLC graduates from the classes of 2016 and 2017 are now in college (and one more is in the U.S. Marine Corps). Colleges they’re attending include Bradley, Dominican, Lewis, North Central, St. Xavier, University of Illinois Champaign, University of Illinois Chicago, Illinois State University, University of Dayton, University of Iowa, University of Michigan, Notre Dame University, St. John’s University, Moraine Valley, Triton, and Morton College. That’s impressive!
Boys’ basketball season has begun! Game schedules were distributed to all the players.
Cell phones are not allowed in class during school hours. Students have to turn in their phones to their teacher when they arrive. If a student is found with a phone during the school day, the phone will be collected and you will have to pick it up from the office. Bummer!
Our Read-A-Thon fundraiser ended last week. We raised $3520 out of which we keep $2816. OLC students read a combined total of 10,344 minutes! • 1st place reader: Addison Medina (1,020 minutes) Principal for a Day • 2nd place reader: Jovan Rodriguez (440 minutes) Out of uniform pass • 3rd place reader: Anahi Vargas (395 minutes) 5 lb. chocolate bar • 1st place class: 7th grade (2,586 minutes read) Out of uniform pass
• 2nd place class: 1st grade (1,661 minutes read) Homework pass
Thank you to all who participated!
Parent-Teacher conferences are on Thurs., Feb. 10, 12:30 - 6:00 PM. Conferences will be virtual, via Zoom. February conferences are at your request or at teacher request. I will send you the link to sign up next week.
Do you have a family photo Christmas card? We are going to create a bulletin board in the hallway that highlights each family for Catholic Schools Week; any photo will do. All students PK - 8 should bring one to their teacher no later than Monday. Include your child’s name on the back, and the photo will be returned. Xeroxed photos are fine. Thank you.
Early bird registration for next school year is 50% off the regular registration price. Register your child now for next year and the fee is $200. The fee increases to $400 beginning Feb. 6. Contact Ms. Candelaria Rosales to register: 708-652-0262 ext. 203 or via email crosales@olc-school.org.
Free tuition for one month, if you refer a child who enrolls at OLC! Contact our marketing director, Ms. Rosales.
On Feb. 10 we will automatically re-enroll your child for next year and apply the registration fee to your FACTS account. If you do not plan on registering for the 2022-23 school year, contact Ms. Rosales no later than Feb. 5. The registration fee is non-refundable.
